MISSION
To use the coaching and playing experience of some of
America's top soccer players to evaluate, develop, and help players enhance
their overall soccer ability while giving them material and tools to take
with them on their own and with their team. Corban Soccer coaches are
to be positive role models and instill good character, work ethic, and
sportsmanship in the players.

Corban Soccer Academy focuses on a "hands on" approach to individual training from top players aimed towards giving the player an added dynamic to improving their overall game. This unique approach is recommended in addition to (not in place of) the other benefits that can be received from practice in the other soccer environments such as training by oneself, with a team, with friends, and playing in games.
One on one private coaching from talented, knowledgeable coaches allows for attention to detail, focus on correct technique (instilling good habits), and proper instruction. It aids and challenges the player to develop at their own pace. It is crucial that the player is not practicing incorrect technique and we understand the importance of developing good habits early. The player learns faster and easier from the coach playing with them (not just instructing) and teaching through demonstrating ("hands on").
The training sessions are far more then
just one extra hour of coaching during the week. Corban coaches analyze
and evaluate the players and share unique skills, drills, tools,
as well as their experience. The coaches
understand this one on one environment as an opportunity to be a positive
influence on the player which is an important part of Corban Soccer.
Finally, playing with someone they look up to not only motivates the player but helps them to grow in confidence. Our coaching is flexible and effectively geared towards all age groups and skill levels.
GOALS
|
Instill good soccer habits by teaching
the player correct technique in the fundamental areas of the game.
"Perfect practice makes perfect!"
|
|
Evaluate the player and focus on areas that will benefit the player's game the most (incorporating player's individual goals).
|
|
For the player to grow towards their potential and learn what it takes both in skill and attitude to be a top soccer player while learning different virtues that breed success on and off the field. |
Great
players are made in the back yard! Corban coaches understand
through experience that you must work hard on your own to be successful
in the sport. The coaches are talented players because of the training
they have done on their own (before/after team practice or in the backyard)
and seek to share the tools and training that has helped them.
5 STEP DEVELOPMENT MODEL
Corban Coaching has a 5 step player development model which aims to help the player reach their soccer potential in order to make him/her a more successful player with their team. There are a number of skills, drills, and competitive games within each step.
1 |
|
Ball
Mastery |
| |
Involves many touches on the ball with all parts of each foot through different exercises which focus on control and repitition. This allows player to be comfortable with the ball at his feet and in the habit of having his head up to see the field. |
| |
|
|
2 |
|
Receiving,
Passing, and Trapping |
| |
Proper technique and form for passing, receiving, and trapping the ball using different parts of the body are practiced through different drills and variations of these skills. (Heading is also covered at this step.) |
| |
|
|
3 |
|
Moves
(change of direction and 1 vs. 1 moves) |
| |
Moves are taught, practiced, and used
in different competitive situations. (Defending and shielding is
also covered at this step.) |
| |
|
|
4 |
|
Striking
and Finishing |
| |
Form and technique to strike the ball with both feet is practiced for different situations (ex. shooting, chipping, curving, driving ball, crossing, and finishing) and different game scenarios. |
| |
|
|
5 |
|
Speed,
Strength, and Agility |
| |
Fitness is an important part of soccer and though there will not be much time directly dedicated to it, there will be plenty of exercises given for the player to work on in thier own time. (Much of the fitness will involve the soccer ball.) |

|
|
This is not a ladder process! We don't move from one step after completion of the previous. All the steps are incorporated and the player's overall ability comes from success at each step applied to the others. Ball Mastery is the foundation of every player's development and is essential for progress through the model/system. A competitive player can always find room for improvement in all areas of their game yet we like to start from the more fundamental and work towards the more complex for better, quicker results.
